Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Arts Center
About the Festival: The Round Rock ISD Middle School One-Act Play Festival is a competition where schools present an 18-40 minute play and are adjudicated by a panel of two judges. The contest is held on two days and open to the public. We divide our district into three zones with awards being given in each zone. The adjudication panel awards individual acting awards as well as ratings for each production presented. Awards presented in each zone at the Festival include; Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, All Star Cast, Honorable Mention All Star Cast and each director awards a Thespian Spirit Award. After the awards are announced a Judge gives an oral critique to each of the schools. Because of the wide participation and diversity of plays produced certain guidelines and an assessment rubric have been adopted by the district’s middle school theatre program. These guidelines are in place to ensure safety, allow for equity, satisfy legal standards, and make the running of the contest practical.
