In January of 2020, Round Rock High School senior Hayden Mays competed in the Austin Branch English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition. This annual event is for high school students all over the United States, who are judged in their local branches by top theatre professionals. Each student performs a monologue from a Shakespeare play as well as a sonnet.
Hayden placed first in the Austin Branch Competition, winning a trip to New York City’s Lincoln Center to compete with the forty-nine other branch winners. Due to COVID19, this competition was held virtually on Monday April 13.
Hayden was selected from an international panel of judges as one of the top ten students in the country. He moves on to compete Monday, April 27 in a live round of Finals. Please join Round Rock ISD Fine Arts and community in wishing him to break a leg!
