Carolyn Scalan Named Outstanding Elementary Art Educator

Art teacher, Carolyn Scalan, has been named 2021 Outstanding Elementary Art Educator by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA). She has been an art educator for years, most recently at Neysa Callison and Gattis Elementary Schools.

Scalan serves as co-president of the Round Rock Art Education Association and is an active art educator presenting locally and on a statewide basis.

“Carolyn makes technology and student choice within her art education practice a tool that is a natural and constant part of student’s art education learning rituals and environment daily,” said Tim Lowke, Round Rock ISD Director of Fine Arts -Visual Arts. “The authentic learning responses that come from her students are amazing examples of 21st-century learning and have been recognized by our leadership and faculty.”

The Elementary Art Educator Award is given only once to one TAEA member from the elementary division who has significantly contributed to the association and to art education on the state, local and/or national levels.

Scalan will receive her award on Friday, Nov.5, at the TAEA Annual Conference at Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Round Rock, TX. TAEA is the largest state professional art education association in the nation.
