Round Rock ISD Visual Arts named District of Distinction for fifth year

For the fifth consecutive year, Round Rock ISD has been named a District of Distinction for its Visual Arts Program by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA). The honor, which places Round Rock ISD’s Visual Arts Program in the top 1.3 percent in Texas, is given to select school districts for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity.

“Our visual arts faculty work diligently and creatively with students daily to ensure that they have the very best art education,” said Tim Lowke, Director of Fine Arts – Visual Arts for Round Rock ISD. “This award is an incredible testament to the high standards we set, the dedication and love for teaching and learning, and consistent student growth that we once again are recognized for the work for a fifth consecutive year. Our quality program is a direct result of our community support, expectations and the talented faculty we attract from across the state and nation to work with our students.“

For the 2023 award, more than 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted support and evidence they met from the 14-point rubric over the previous school year. Only 68 districts met the qualifying criteria to receive the distinction. In addition, Round Rock ISD is one of only 16 school districts to receive this honor for five consecutive years, as long as the distinction has been available.

“Round Rock ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation and student growth,” said Sandra Newton, Chair of the Visual Arts Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA. “It is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.”

All 63 districts will be honored at the Visual Arts Administrators of Texas meeting and the Friday General Session of the TAEA Conference in November 2023.
